About us
The institutions that make up the Group 9 of Universities (G-9) joined last November in a consortium to jointly celebrate the European Night of Researchers 2020, coordinated by the University of Oviedo. The European Commission (EC) will finance the activities that the Group is going to develop on November 27 in 12 cities of its autonomous communities, within the framework of the aforementioned initiative of scientific and technological dissemination. The project was conceived within the Scientific Culture working group of the G-9 Research Sector and constitutes one of the first collaborative projects of the Group 9 of Universities with funding from European Union programs.
The participating universities will be those of Cantabria, Castilla-La Mancha, Extremadura, the Balearic Islands, Oviedo, the Basque Country, Public of Navarra and Zaragoza, with the collaboration of the University of La Rioja.
How are we going to do it?
The research staff of these universities dedicate the afternoon and evening of November 27 to dissemination to show the most human side of science with a varied and balanced program between experimental sciences and humanities. Thus, workshops, demonstrations, games or competitions will be held with more than a hundred activities available to all audiences, but paying special attention to young people of school age.
438/5000Prior to the great event on November 27, and during the months of September, October and November, different promotional activities will be organized for the European Night of Researchers and Researchers; as a live broadcast of scientific monologues from the Risarchers of the University of Zaragoza or activities of the S-TEAM Laboratory in educational centers promoted by the participating universities of the consortium.

Who are the promoters of the activity?
The European Researchers Night is an event to be held in more than 370 European cities, and is sponsored by the European Commission, under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) initiative. This initiative seeks to promote scientific degrees within Europe, and it is part of the Horizon 2020 program, under the European Union Investigation and Innovation Framework. The main goals of this program are to bring the image of researchers closer to the citizenship, and to raise awareness over the nature of their work and its benefits to society, but also to promote the choice of a scientific career among young students, overcoming gender barriers.
In this call for the European Night of Researchers 2020, the European Commission had 8M euros and 100 projects participated. In Spain, in addition to the G9 Universities, projects presented by Madrid, Andalusia, the Canary Islands, Gerona and Zaragoza have received funding.
