One night, I dreamed of being a researcher, and today I’m…
#HumansofSTEAM
Different languages have always been around me. I was born in Pakistan, and I moved to Spain when I was 4 years old. I learned Spanish in the school environment. In my house we spoke Punjabi and Urdu. Teaching my parents Spanish was my first interaction with interlinguistic analysis, although it was at a descriptive level.
During my degree in English Studies, I learned my fourth language, English, and I became aware of how important interlinguistic knowledge is. I learned that languages and cognition go hand I hand. So I began to investigate with the aid of my teachers the reason for the similarities and differences between languages of various origins, looking for universal rules.
My studies and my family always go hand in hand, which sometimes can be a hurdle in my research, but is also what helps me keep going forward.
